1.Bedding
Dorm rooms are blank canvases that are great for you to add your own style and personal touch to. A nice set of bedding is the first way to make your boring dorm room into something spectacular! We love all the new cute prints, bright colors and patterns of bedding. Check out our board “Cute Bedding” to see all the beautiful styles we chose for your new cozy corner! Our blog post on Cute Dorm Room Bedding also features some of our favorite dorm room bedding sets.
Your college dorm room is the perfect place to show off a more sophisticated, adult style than the cutesy bedding you had back at home while you were growing up! Some of our favorite stores to shop for bedding at various pricepoints are Wayfair, Target, and Anthropologie.
2. Storage
There is never enough closet and storage space in a dorm room. This is where you have to really think and utilize every square inch of your room. Storage boxes have come a long way from boring solid colored plastic bins. You can find some cute and stylish printed and patterned baskets, hampers, boxes, and trunks for all your stuff.
Another great space-saving idea is to get posts or risers to put your bed up on and store stuff underneath it!
3. Bathroom and Shower Supplies
The best thing to use for your shared bathroom is a great waterproof shower bag. These are the perfect way to keep all your shower and bathroom essentials in one bag. Keeping all of your bathroom supplies organized and together is a must when sharing. We have some great options pinned to our Board “Cute Dorm Room Essentials.”
4. Laundry Accessories
Having a great laundry hamper and baskets are dorm room essentials. A hamper with wheels and even a zipped top is great for toting back and forth from room to room. Travel size laundry detergents, wrinkle releasers and static sprays are also good and do not take up much space.
5. Dorm Room Decorations
When shopping for your dorm room decorations, it’s fun to have fun and think outside of the box for cute, inexpensive ideas. A full length mirror decorated with your personal touch is a cute idea. You can also print your pictures and arrange them in collages on your wall in different shapes. Hanging string lights and curtains for a canopy style bed would also add a decorative flair to your new space. Separate your space from your roommates’ space and create privacy with a curtain or large piece of colorful fabric.
6. Seating
Seating is a necessity for any dorm room unless you want to sit on the floor or have everyone pile on your small bed when they visit. A great way to utilize space and have extra seating is using storage boxes and trunks as benches. Foldable papason chairs or oversized bean bags are also cute and comfy alternatives. Some of them can fold out into a makeshift bed so that you can have friends come and visit you in college.
7. Study Aids
The real reason you are in college is to get good grades and focus on your studies. Having a cute and organized desk space will make studying and concentrating less stressful. A great desk lamp or monogramed accessories will add a personal touch to your study area. Simple and sweet bins and paper organizers will help keep all your notes and research in order. Hanging a small dry erase board to remind you of upcoming deadlines and events is another cute touch to your desk space.
8. Mini Kitchen
Dorms do not have kitchens, of course- but you will want to create your own mini kitchen and have a mini dorm fridge. This way you can snack and eat in your dorm and not have to rely on leaving your room for every meal. Travel size cooking accessories are great for your small space. Small microwaves and coffee pots are also very convenient. If you have a roommate, make sure to coordinate what you’re each going to bring, so that you won’t have doubles!
9. Cute Rugs
Many dorm rooms have cold hard tile floors, which makes adding a cute plush rug to your checklist a necessity. Your rug will become the heart of your dorm room and will make it feel more comfy and cozy than any other part of the room. You can add your personal flair with a designer rug, fuzzy plush rug or a standard area rug.
